Shapps is run by a long time web developer. Someone that has seen how the web has evolved. Someone that knows what your priorities are.
Colin McDonald is an Ottawa based developer who has been developing web applications since 1998. Used to working in small dynamic environments, this developer quickly found a niche in his ability to develop applications that work with the Shopify API. Along with help from some of his friends at Reconfigure and StatikPulse, Colin was quickly able to get his foot in the door at Shopify and get recommended for many jobs.
While working on these jobs, he learned quickly that store owners could get easy customizations with private shopify apps. And since there was a big need, a lot of experience was gained and that knowledge was used to create public Shopify Apps.

Giving back to the Shopify Community
Shapps.ca has made a contribution back to the Shopify Development community by providing a CakePHP plugin. I built this for the use with the Custom Shopify Forms app and purposely designed it as a plugin. This way, other Shopify app developers can take the plugin and get started on their own apps without a lot of overhead.
Shopify PHP API Client
Thanks very much to Sandeep Shetty of Simpthings for his excellent work on Lightweight multi-paradigm PHP (JSON)client for the Shopify API. We here at ShApps.ca have been making great use of this client. Unfortunately, however, he made use of a feature only available in version 5.3 of PHP (and above).
We really liked what Sandeep had done and the way he made it very light weight. It also keeps the developer very close to the Shopify API. So, with all that in mind, we forked the codebase and converted his code (mostly as is) into an object-oriented PHP class.
